Development of higher order methods for accurate measurements of infectious agents in clinical samples

The main aim of this workpackage is to develop methods of higher order for accurate measurements of infectious agents in clinical samples and assignment of traceable values to reference materials and to assess their performance and measurement uncertainty.

The research will investigate:

  • Selection of model systems for infectious agent
  • Selection and evaluation of nucleic acid extraction methods
  • Selection and preparation of test materials from model systems for infectious agents
  • Methods for the characterisation of instruments for nucleic acid detection
  • Selection, development and optimisation of higher order amplification based measurement procedures for identification and quantification of infectious agents
  • Development and optimisation of high sensitivity methods for direct DNA/RNA target detection
  • Assessment of performance of higher order measurement procedures for identification and quantification of model systems
  • Assigning reference values to the test materials
